Leave requests and approvals, without the WhatsApp thread
An employee requests leave, the line manager approves it, HR sees it, and the balance updates — against the policy your company sets, not one we invented. Every decision leaves a record.

Requested in the system
Type, dates and reason in one form — not a message that scrolls away.
Routed, then recorded
To the line manager, then HR. Who approved what, and when, is kept.
A calendar the team shares
Who is off next week, before the week starts rather than on the morning it does.
Your policy, not ours
Leave types and balances are configured by you. Remotly asserts no statutory figures.
Where leave actually goes wrong
Leave rarely fails at the decision. It fails at the record. A request is made in a chat, approved with a thumbs-up, and then exists nowhere: not in a balance, not in a calendar, and not in anything payroll can read at the end of the year. When two people in the same team book the same week, nobody finds out until one of them does not show up.
In Remotly the request is an object, not a message. It has a type, dates, a requester and an approver, and it stays attached to the employee record for as long as the company keeps it.
- Leave types you define, with balances tracked per employee.
- Approval by the line manager, then visible to HR — with the record of both.
- A shared calendar so clashes are seen before they happen.
- Leave shows up in attendance: someone on approved leave is not marked absent.
Why we publish no legal entitlements
A lot of HR software will quote you a statutory leave balance or an end-of-service formula for your country. We will not, and the reason is not caution — it is that Remotly ships no country pack, so any figure shown would be a number typed by a developer rather than one read from a source. Your leave policy is yours to configure, from your own regulations and your own legal advice; Remotly's job is to apply it consistently and remember every decision.
Leave and attendance are the same conversation
Leave only matters because of attendance. An absence is a problem or it is approved leave, and the difference is a record somebody has to hold. When the two live in separate systems — or one of them lives in a chat thread — the reconciliation happens at month end, by hand, against memory.
In Remotly they are one system. Approved leave shows on the attendance record as leave, the shared calendar shows the clash before two people book the same week, and the monthly report needs no explanation attached to it.
- Approved leave appears in attendance as leave, not as an unexplained absence.
- A team calendar that surfaces clashes before the week starts.
- Balances per employee against the leave types your company defines.
- Every approval kept, so a question a year later has an answer.
Common questions
Does Remotly calculate statutory leave for my country?
No. It tracks leave and balances against the policy your company configures. For the legal provisions, refer to your labour law and your internal regulations.
Who approves a leave request?
The employee's line manager, with HR able to see and act on it. Both steps are recorded, so a year later you can still see who approved what.
Is leave management free?
Yes, it is part of the free plan along with attendance, employee records, projects and tasks.
